"I explore a world in which figurative painting coexists with abstraction. Each one of my paintings mirrors a different state of mind, a spiritual moment, a doubtful moment or an echo from the past reflecting my Middle Eastern background….. it is emotional on many levels. As for my viewers, I hope they will connect with my paintings on one level or another, maybe they will see their own journey!"
Lina Faroussi was born and raised in Syria, then moved to Egypt to continue her Bachelor degree in Commerce, Lina’s passion for Art started at an early stage. And during the years living in Egypt then Dubai and currently in Toronto since 2008, she studied visual art and continued to work on her dream of becoming a visual artist and exhibit in many different groups and solo shows throughout the Middle East, Europe, Canada, and the United States.
You could describe her work as distinctive and emotive internal landscapes with a particular focus on cultural memories from her Syrian heritage.
Her work depicts human figures stretched, tinted, and textured into beautiful, otherworldly creatures. They bend in sorrow and arch with joy. They share quiet, still moments with each other, their faces expressing layers of feeling. They are dream figures with real emotions.
She paints in acrylic combined with a variety of media, including fabric, Japanese paper, clay, sand and photo transfer.
